ABOUT FAITH

My work observes the life of my mother, who has become shut away from the world. Already struggling with her anxiety, it has become apparent that her lack of social interactions has had a significant impact on her mental well-being. To keep herself sane, she found a hobby of painting-by-numbers.

In her dining room she sits with her paintings, looking out into her back garden where birds flutter down to eat, cats play, and rabbits hop around. The sky is blue, the palm trees sway in the wind. I created a camera obscura to reflect her view back on to her. The outside becomes the inside as the projected image engulfs the room, faintly illuminating her and the surrounding space.
