INDRA GURUNG

SURFACE PATTERN & TEXTILES

ABOUT INDRA

During this year, I have made virtual visits to different online galleries and accessed botanical gardens online. I have researched the national flowers of Nepal (Rhododendron), national flower of Wales (Daffodils) and other flowers such as Dahlias.  I also visited Kew Garden in London where I was able to see the butterflies and flowers in person.  I am inspired by the symbolism and identity behind flowers, and this provides a link to the culture of a country.  I have also looked at Nepalese textiles and the traditional dhaka topi patterns.

Motivated by the concept of botanical flowers, I decided to create a collection of fashion design patterns with three stories based on encompassing the theme of nature, floral and culture. The collection consists of abstract florals, a combination of butterfly and floral abstract designs and a combination of Nepalese inspired cultural shapes and floral.
