The pandemic has taken many things from many people. This project is not one of them. In this case, the pandemic allowed me the space needed to create this specific body of work. Using crochet as my process I recorded 152 days’ worth of thoughts and emotions, in the form of small humanoid soft sculptures. The slow and manual act of crochet left room for my own thoughts to come alive. The hypnotic movements became almost meditative, a welcomed therapy.
Going through the motions of this project, not only did I uncover things about myself but also my work, more specifically where it might sit within the creative world. Previously I would not have considered myself to be an artist but rather a maker. Now, with the new research I have done, I can confidently say that I can see my work within the art world.
