OLLIE STEWART

FOUNDATION ART & DESIGN

ABOUT OLLIE

For this exhibition, I have produced two screen prints – each single coloured, relating to the theme of survival.

I have been particularly interested in photography as a medium and this work incorporates my use of photography alongside screen printing. I began by taking macro (close-up) photographs of insects then spent a lot of time manipulating the images with photoshop so that I had a strong image to work with for the screen print process.

Both images play with found, as well as my own imagery, one depicting an eagle, the other a woodlouse, spider and earwig, staged as part of industrial landscapes. They incorporate my own photographic work with found photographs, and have been coloured with distinct single flat colour palettes which are reminiscent of pop art. I was influenced by Andy Warhol in the past which I think has filtered through my subconscious during this project.
