About Sarah
I have created a picture book to help young children cope with childhood worries. I have used watercolour and Indian ink to create two different worlds that explore the inner anxieties of the central character. As Ruby Red is distressed, her reality is black and grey, it then begins to transform into colour, showing how she works through her problems. This is potentially the first book in a series of six, each of the magical keys corresponding to the magical lands, as shown in the map. During my previous role as a primary school teacher, I felt a need for this type of book, to introduce a difficult subject. I feel that I have created a starting point for children to talk about their feelings, worries and mental health.
